Over the past two years, we have experienced unprecedented traumas: the COVID-19 pandemic, civil rights violations, climate change, harmful political cycles and movements, and most recently, a full fledged war. In the midst of this chaos, we have been expected to be present for our students, providing them with a quality education that required an abundance of compassion, creativity, and flexibility to pivot and meet the ever-changing circumstances and their needs. Often, these demands will force our personal and professional needs to fall aside, leaving us feeling depleted. During this workshop, we will pause to focus on ourselves and develop a deeper understanding of how stress impacts our brain and our bodies. We will also learn approaches and strategies to self care that promote healing and resiliency in a systemic and sustainable way. We will find that in prioritizing our well being, we are healthier and more fulfilled, making us more effective educators.
